The Arrival
New work usually begins with a few sessions in the studio surrounded by my books, an iPad, a charcoal, pencil or brush in hand and lots of cups of black coffee. Often days go by sketching, researching concepts, procrastinating and daydreaming. You can view these unkempt, working drawings, scattered around the walls.
Once I have pages of rough preliminary ideas some get developed as larger charcoal and acrylic sketches and drawings to progress the concepts a little further.
From here the hard work begins, drawing up and painting the final work. The painting process is resolving the unresolved, until no further aspects stand out or niggle my attention. The mindful chaos becomes somewhat ordered and resolved but often, I find it is in the rendering of a mind’s idea that something of its purity is lost - you can never surpass nor even match the quality of the mind's eye. This is what keeps me trying. There will be some of these finals works available for close inspection and Barry will be on hand to answer any questions you have.
