Keum Sun Lee is a self-taught potter and ceramicist, known as SHIM & LEE alongside her husband, potter Sang-Sool Shim. Working with traditional Korean techniques from the 10th and 15th centuries, she has adapted the colours of these traditions to give her creations a contemporary feel. She has developed many contemporary glazes and colours. All works are unique and 100% handmade, ranging from small to large-scale pieces. Each is created with exceptional skill and requires considerable patience and concentration to complete.
They have participated in more than 40 exhibitions in New Zealand and abroad, including in Austria, Croatia and Korea. They have won many awards, including the Premier Award at the Portage Ceramic Awards, two People’s Choice Awards, and First Prize and a Merit Award at the Greater Auckland Art Awards and Exhibition. Their works are held in the collections of the Portage Licensing Trust and Kapfenberg, Austria.
Every piece is handmade and decorated with hand-carved details and colour. From small to large-scale works, each is something special to buy as a gift or for yourself to keep forever.
