5. Sally Fagence | Fagence Art
Sally Fagence
Trained originally in graphic art in the 70s, working in Auckland, ChCh and Sydney.
Upon meeting Darryl in the mid 1980’s they moved to Kaingaroa the Far North where they created a cottage industry “Glass Creations”.
Sally hand wrote, illustrated and self published the “Homemade Cook Book” and worked with pressed flowers which were made into stained glass hangings.
They lived there in a house built and designed by Darryl for 12 yrs and raised their three daughters.
In 1994 they moved to Auckland where Sally started to paint professionally and also tutored children’s art classes for 20 yrs.
Sally has worked in a variety of media always inspired by the bush backdrop on the edge of the family home and studio.
As of the past few years she has been finding great inspiration and success using up cycling wine barrels (staves and lids).
She paints new life into each piece making it a unique artwork using the grains of the oak wood quite often to dictate the final outcome. She also uses redundant wooden planes and other wooden objects and occasionally canvases always painting in oils and using gold or silver leaf.
She is represented by Blackdoor Gallery and Next door Gallery.
